What Does An EKG Technician Do?

The role of an EKG technician is to perform cardiovascular tests, monitor equipment, and work with patients to assist doctors and other health professionals.

The EKG Technician program prepares students to gain a solid understanding of medical terminology, disease processes, and best practices for patients. As well as identifying heart conditions and collecting data, they will work alongside cardiologists and provide professional patient care.

Where Does An EKG Technician Work?

EKG technicians work in a variety of settings, which may include hospitals, heart centers or private practice offices. Technicians will collaborate with many other healthcare professionals, and there are opportunities to further specialize in other areas such as echocardiography, vascular technology and Holter monitoring.

CERTIFICATION INFORMATION

Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to sit for the Certified EKG Technician exam. Before taking this exam, students are required to complete at least 10 EKGs on a live person in order to fulfill their clinical requirement.
